The COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to making our daily lives more difficult, has also created opportunities for cybercriminals to take advantage of the growing online sales activity.
Recently, individuals have set up online shopping sites globally in order to take advantage of fraudulent websites, through which they acquire bank card data provided by interested buyers.
These sites mainly sell products at relatively low prices, in order to make purchases as attractive as possible. When you make purchases and enter your card details, this data is then misused to make other purchases at higher values not authorized by the cardholders.
Since these sites are difficult to detect as sources of fraud, you should pay more attention to the following points when shopping online:
- How realistic do the sales offer sound? Maybe it’s too good to be true.
- The website was created recently, meaning it is a new sales channel.
- You have never heard of this site before.
- The site has links to follow on social networks Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter or elsewhere, but when you click on their icons nothing happens.
- Contact details are not related to the site name or structure (example: HOTYOUNNICE page name while the contact email address is service@stcooltre.com).
BKT Kosova invites all its customers to be extra careful when shopping online in cases when immediate payment is required through the card, by researching the authenticity of the service provider.
